5 Hiking routes around Barcelona

​Once you leave Barcelona, you can find a lot of hiking routes. In Catalunya you can find a lot of mountains, forests and nice places to hike and walk. And best of all, a lot of these places are reachable by public transport.

From Barcelona to Sant Cugat

This hike starts at Parc Labyrinth d’Horta, close to the metro stop Mundet (L3), and goes all the way to Sant Cugat. In the beginning, you will have to walk a bit uphill, but after this the walk is not too hard.  You will have a lot of nice views over Barcelona once you arrive on the famous road Carretera de las Aguas. The rest of the walk you go through the forest which is the Parc Natural de la Serra de Collserola. After walking 2/3 hours you will see and 230 years old tree and then you know you arrive at your destination Sant Cugat. From Sant Cugat you can take the train back to Barcelona which will take you about 30 minutes.



Going to Montserrat will take you a whole day. There are different options to go up to the Monastery. You can take the train to Montserrat and then go up to the with the Cable Car or the Rack Railway directly to the Monastery. Another option is taking the train to Monistrol de Montserrat and then you can walk up to the monastery. The hike will take you 2 to 3 hours, it is quite a hard walk. The start of the route is not very easy to find, but once you are on the correct way you will enjoy this walk a lot!  You walk in between rosemary fields and beautiful views. Don’t forget to bring enough water.


Walk from Vilanova y La Geltru to Sitges

This walk is the perfect Sunday activity on a sunny day. You can take the train from Barcelona to Vilanova, what is about 40 min. Once arrived in Vilanova you walk direction the beach in order to find the way. The path is going between the train line and the sea and is very nice. The walk itself will take you about 2 hours with amazing views and your destination is Sitges. Sitges is also worthy to walk around.



If you don’t want to travel, but would like to stay in the city, you have the option to walk up to Mount Tibidabo till the Temple del Sagrat Cor. You can take the train up to Avignuda Tibidabo and start walking from there. When you get off from the train, you arrive in a residential area full of very nice houses and mansions. You have to walk the way up and on a certain point the traffic ends and the gravel trail starts. During the walk, you will have amazing views and it will take you about 1 hour. Once you get up, you arrive in the amusement park and the Temple del Sagrat Cor.


S’Agaro coastal walk

This walk is starting in Sant Pol de Mar. From there, facing the sea, to the left, take the marked walkway GR 92, this is a large and excellently paved path. The way continues to Cala Pedrosa. The path continues then through the steps of Sa Conca, until Cala de Los Oriços, where the tour ends having enjoyed one of the most extraordinary places on the Costa Brava, declared Heritage of Cultural Interest.
